Phahonyothin and the Asian Highway jam outbound on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, especially between Rangsit and Wang Noi. Leaving before 7am or after 2pm saves about 45 minutes.
Migratory birds at Bueng Boraphet peak from November to March, with early morning and evening the most active. Book tour boats ahead on long weekends.
The two river colours at Pak Nam Pho are most distinct in flood season, roughly September to November. Outside that window they look similar and the contrast is hard to see.
If continuing to Chiang Mai or Sukhothai, Nakhon Sawan is the best rest stop on the route, with plenty of restaurants and fuel stations. Just tell the driver you want to break here.
