Stops & places to visit

Khao Yai National Park

The UNESCO-listed forest that anchors the whole trip. The main northern checkpoint is in Moo Si, Pak Chong, open 06:00-18:00 daily. Park entry fees are paid at the gate and are separate from the van fare.

Haew Suwat Waterfall

Khao Yai's most photographed waterfall, around 20 metres high and a short walk from the car park. It runs strongest late in the rainy season.

Pha Diao Dai viewpoint

A cliff-edge lookout with a short nature trail, popular for sunrise and for the sea of mist in the cool season. You need a very early start from your hotel.

Nong Phak Chi watchtower

A wildlife hide overlooking a grassland inside the park. Late afternoon gives the best chance of spotting wild elephants, deer and birds. Stay quiet and never feed the animals.

Farm Chokchai

A large dairy farm on Mittraphap Road in Pak Chong, right on the way up. Farm tours, kids' activities and fresh milk ice cream. Tour slots should be booked ahead.

PB Valley and GranMonte wineries

Working vineyards in the Pak Chong hills with cellar tours, tastings and restaurants looking over the vines. An easy afternoon stop before heading back to your hotel.

Travel tips for this route

  1. Leave Bangkok before 07:00, especially on a Friday or Saturday morning. The worst bottlenecks are Phahonyothin around Rangsit and Wang Noi, then Mittraphap Road between Saraburi and Muak Lek. A 09:00 departure can easily add an hour to the drive.
  2. Coming back on a Sunday, avoid 15:00-20:00 when the whole weekend crowd returns at once. Either leave your hotel before 14:00 or have dinner in Pak Chong and set off after 20:00.
  3. The standard route follows Mittraphap Road through Saraburi and Muak Lek. The new M6 motorway from Bang Pa-in to Pak Chong is still opening in phases, with some sections available only on certain days, so your driver checks the current status before departure. If your plan centres on Haew Narok waterfall, the Rangsit to Nakhon Nayok road and the eastern Noen Hom gate is the shorter way in.
  4. November to February is the cool, misty peak season and hotels sell out weeks ahead. June to October brings the fullest waterfalls but also slippery trails and leeches, so bring leech socks and grippy shoes. Wild elephants often walk the park roads at dusk, so drive slowly, keep your distance and never feed them.

The route covers roughly 144 km and takes about 2.5 to 3 hours in normal traffic. A late-morning start or a Friday evening departure can stretch it to 4 hours, and if your hotel sits deep inside the national park, allow another 30 to 45 minutes for the mountain road.
What is included in the 4,600 THB price?
That is the flat one-way rate for a Toyota Commuter seating 9 to 13 people, and it already covers fuel, expressway tolls, the driver and bottled water. The Alphard for 6 to 7 people is 10,000 THB per trip. National park entry fees and attraction tickets are not included and are paid on site.
Can we make stops along the way, and will the van wait?
Yes. Tell us your stops when you book so we can plan the timing, for example Farm Chokchai or a winery before hotel check-in, and the driver waits at each stop. Small changes on the day are fine to discuss directly with the driver. If the plan grows well beyond what was booked, we will tell you about any extra cost before it applies.
Is Khao Yai doable as a day trip from Bangkok?
It works if you leave Bangkok around 05:00 to 06:00, which gives you a full day for three or four stops and gets you home in the evening. For sunrise at Pha Diao Dai or dusk wildlife watching, one overnight makes the trip far less rushed.
