Private van with driver

Bangkok to Cha-am: Private Van Charter with Driver

Cha-am is the easiest beach escape from Bangkok: roughly 200–235 km south depending on your pickup point, or about 2.5 to 3.5 hours on the road, with a long, laid-back shoreline and far fewer crowds than Hua Hin just down the coast. Kingtocar arranges a private van with a driver for your group only, at one flat price that already covers fuel, expressway tolls, the driver and drinking water. Because you have the whole vehicle, you can also build in stops — the Maeklong Railway Market and Amphawa are both a short detour off the main route.

Why book this route with us

Bangkok to Cha-am

One flat price, no surprises

Toyota Commuter ฿6,000 and Alphard ฿13,500 per trip, with fuel, expressway tolls, the driver and bottled water already included. You never hand over cash at a toll booth or a petrol station along the way.

Stops built into your route

Chartering the whole van means the vehicle waits for you, not the other way around. Add the Maeklong Railway Market, Amphawa Floating Market or Phra Nakhon Khiri in Phetchaburi and we sequence the day around them.

Two vehicles, two kinds of trip

The Toyota Commuter seats 9–13 and swallows big suitcases, surfboards and beach gear. For groups of up to seven who want proper reclining seats and a quieter cabin, the Alphard is the better ride.

Drivers who know Highway 35 and 4

Our partner drivers run the southern route regularly, so they know when Rama II Road backs up and which rest stops actually have clean restrooms. You get to sleep through the drive.

Stops & places to visit

Maeklong Railway Market

The famous market where vendors fold their awnings each time a train rolls through the stalls. It sits in Samut Songkhram, only a few kilometres off the main route, so a 30–45 minute stop costs you almost no driving time. Check the train timetable first.

Amphawa Floating Market

An evening canal market that only runs Friday to Sunday, from afternoon until night. It suits an afternoon departure from Bangkok: eat dinner by the water, then continue to Cha-am and arrive at your hotel in the evening.

Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang), Phetchaburi

A 19th-century royal palace on a hilltop in Phetchaburi town, about 40 km before Cha-am. A funicular tram carries you up if you'd rather not climb, and the view over the town is worth the stop. Allow one to two hours.

Cha-am Beach

A long, shallow beach lined with deckchairs, umbrellas and open-air seafood restaurants. The gentle slope into the water makes it easy for young children, and there's horse riding along the sand, banana boats and jet skis.

Mrigadayavan Palace

A golden teak seaside palace built for King Rama VI, standing between Cha-am and Hua Hin. It isn't open every day and there's a dress code, so confirm the current opening days and entry fee before you build it into the itinerary.

Swiss Sheep Farm, Santorini Park & Camel Republic

Three photo-friendly family attractions clustered along Phetkasem Road in Cha-am, only minutes apart. Together they fill a comfortable half day, which works well before hotel check-in.

Travel tips for this route

  1. Rama II Road (Highway 35) is the bottleneck on this route. Leaving Bangkok on a Friday, aim to depart before 3pm or after 8pm; coming back on a Sunday, avoid 2–7pm when the whole coast drives home at once.
  2. To reach Cha-am in time for lunch, leave Bangkok around 6–7am. You clear the city rush hour and still have time for an unhurried restroom stop at the service stations around Samut Sakhon or Maeklong.
  3. The new elevated M82 motorway along Rama II (Bang Khun Thian–Ban Phaeo) is scheduled to open in August 2026 and is expected to be toll-free at first. If it opens on time, it removes the worst-congested stretch of this drive.
  4. November to February is the cool, dry season with the clearest water; March to May is hot, so swim early or late in the day. This side of the Gulf gets less rain than the Andaman coast, but September and October are the wettest months — allow extra travel time then.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Bangkok to Cha-am?
Normally 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on your pickup point in Bangkok and traffic on Rama II Road. On Friday evenings and long weekends, allow 4–5 hours to be safe. Any sightseeing stops you add are on top of that driving time.
What does the ฿6,000 include? Are there extra charges on arrival?
Fuel, expressway tolls, the driver's fee and bottled water are all included. It's a flat price for the whole vehicle per trip, not per person, so the cost doesn't change with group size. Attraction tickets and your own meals aren't included. A ฿500 deposit confirms the booking and the balance is settled on the day.
Can we stop along the way, for example at Amphawa or Phetchaburi?
Yes — the van is yours for the trip, so it stays with you rather than running to a timetable. Tell us your preferred stops when you book so the driver can sequence the route properly. If a detour adds significant distance, we'll quote the difference before you confirm.
Is Bangkok to Cha-am doable as a day trip?
It is, but you need an early start, around 5–6am. That gives you a full day at the beach, and you should leave Cha-am before 5pm to beat the evening rush back into Bangkok. If you'd rather not watch the clock, one overnight makes the trip far more relaxed.
How is pricing handled for an overnight stay, and where does the driver sleep?
The ฿6,000 (Commuter) and ฿13,500 (Alphard) rates are per one-way trip. For overnight or multi-day trips, send us your dates and how you plan to use the van each day, and we'll quote a total before you commit. The driver's accommodation is stated clearly in that quote, so nothing appears on the bill later.
