The light beam in Phraya Nakhon Cave is best from about 10 to 11am. Leave Bangkok at 5am, or stay in Pranburi the night before, to reach the trailhead by 8 or 9 and be inside for the light.
The climb is steep and over natural rock, taking 30 to 45 minutes each way. Wear trainers and carry water; older visitors or anyone with knee problems should consider carefully.
The alternative is a boat from Ban Bang Pu to Laem Sala beach followed by a shorter walk. Boats cost extra but suit anyone unable to manage the full hike.
Migratory birds at the Sam Roi Yot wetlands peak from November to March, and early morning or late afternoon offers the most activity.
