For Koh Chang, reach Laem Ngop before 5pm — missing the last ferry means a night on the mainland. Leave Bangkok by 8am to be safe.
Speedboats to Koh Kood and Koh Mak from Laem Sok run only a few times a day, mostly morning to early afternoon. Confirm the schedule with your island accommodation before fixing your Bangkok departure.
At 297 km and four to five hours, plan one or two breaks in Rayong or Chanthaburi for restrooms and a meal — far more comfortable than driving straight through.
Anyone crossing at Hat Lek should verify current opening hours and visa requirements with the relevant authorities before travelling, as rules change, and note the checkpoint is a further 90 km beyond Trat town.
