Mon Bridge (Uttamanusorn Bridge)

Thailand's longest wooden bridge at around 850 metres, linking the Thai side with the Mon village. At dawn, monks receive alms on the bridge — a memorable sight best seen before 6am.

Wat Wang Wiwekaram and the sunken temple

The temple of the revered Luang Pho Uttama, and nearby the old temple submerged by the reservoir, which re-emerges clearly in the dry months of March to May. In high water it is visited by boat.

Three Pagodas Pass

The Thai–Myanmar frontier marked by three small pagodas, about 20 km from town, with a market selling Burmese goods. Check the crossing's current status before travelling.

The Mon village and morning market

Across the bridge, the village market sells Mon food and local products, and women still wear thanaka on their faces — an atmosphere quite unlike anywhere else in Thailand.

Vajiralongkorn Dam

Thailand's largest rock-fill dam, with crest viewpoints and floating raft accommodation. It lies directly on the road to Sangkhla Buri and makes a natural photo stop.

Kroeng Krawia Waterfall

A tiered limestone waterfall beside the Thong Pha Phum–Sangkhla Buri road, requiring no long walk — a welcome stretch-your-legs stop on a long drive.

Travel tips for this route

The final seventy kilometres are winding mountain road. Anyone prone to motion sickness should sit forward and bring medication; the driver will keep a steady pace and stop when needed.
Alms-giving on the Mon Bridge starts around 5.30 to 6am, so an overnight stay is essential. Choose accommodation near the bridge so the pre-dawn walk is short.
The sunken temple is most visible in the dry months of March to May. From September to December high water covers it and it is viewed by boat instead.
Check the current status of the Three Pagodas Pass with the relevant authorities before travelling, as border openings depend on conditions that can change.
