Travel tips for this route

Chanthaburi's fruit season runs roughly April to June, when accommodation fills fast and orchard roads get busy at weekends. Book transport and rooms at least two weeks ahead.
The gem market only trades Friday to Sunday, so plan your dates accordingly. If you are not a gem expert, treat it as a spectacle rather than a shopping trip and avoid high-value purchases from street stalls.
At 225 km and about three and a half hours, a same-day return is tiring. An overnight stay lets you enjoy the old town in the evening, when it is at its most atmospheric.
If continuing to Koh Chang, reach Laem Ngop pier before 5pm, as the last ferries usually leave in the early evening. Allow a further hour and a half from Chanthaburi to the pier.
