Ban Phe Pier & Market

The main departure point for Koh Samet. Passenger ferries take roughly 30–45 minutes, speedboats about 15. The market beside the pier sells dried seafood and local snacks.

Koh Samet

Hat Sai Kaew, Ao Wong Duean and Ao Prao are the best-known beaches. A national park entrance fee is collected on the island, with different rates for Thai and foreign visitors, so bring cash.

Mae Ramphueng Beach & Khao Laem Ya

A long mainland beach you can reach by road, with a headland viewpoint looking across to Koh Samet. A good option if you want the coast without taking a boat.

Tung Prong Thong, Pak Nam Prasae

A boardwalk winding through a golden-green mangrove forest in Klaeng district, about 40 km from Rayong town. The retired warship HTMS Prasae sits nearby on dry land.

Suphattra Land Fruit Farm

A large orchard in Wang Chan district. From April to June it is durian, mangosteen and rambutan season, with tram tours and fruit tasting. Check opening days outside that window.

Wat Pa Pradu

A historic temple in Rayong town housing a reclining Buddha that lies on its left side, unusual in Thailand. An easy stop on the way into town or on the drive home.

Travel tips for this route

Leave Bangkok before 6am or after 9:30am. Departing in the middle of the morning rush along the Bang Na–Chonburi corridor can add 40–60 minutes to the trip.
Friday late afternoon heading out and Sunday afternoon coming back are the busiest windows on Motorway 7. On long weekends and Thai public holidays, allow an extra 1–1.5 hours and book the van several days ahead.
Public ferries to Koh Samet generally run between 8am and 4pm. Arrive at Ban Phe later than that and you will need to charter a speedboat at extra cost, so aim to reach the pier before 3:30pm.
November to February brings the calmest seas and clearest skies. April to June is Rayong's fruit season, and July to October sees rain, though Koh Samet is known for staying drier than the Andaman coast in the same months. On windy days, check sea conditions at the pier before boarding.

Is a Bangkok–Rayong day trip realistic, and can we stop along the way?

A same-day return works well for mainland spots such as Mae Ramphueng Beach or Ban Phe, leaving Bangkok around 6am and starting back by late afternoon. Stops are welcome; just list them when booking. If Koh Samet is the goal, one overnight makes the trip far more relaxed.
